Last Night in Twisted River (original title: Last Night in Twisted River ) is a novel by John Irving that was published in English in 2009 and in German in 2010 . The translation is by Hans M. Herzog.

action

The plot spans five decades and is about a boy and his father who flee from the logging settlement of Twisted River on the Androscoggin River in northern New Hampshire after a tragic accident . During the escape, the boy grows up and becomes a famous writer of eight semi- autobiographical novels.

Last Night at Twisted River was conceived and written down over a period of 20 years. The novel has the structure of a boxed story showing the development of a novelist and the writing process. Irving uses many of the themes and motifs that have shaped his earlier novels, such as: B. unequal relationships between men and women, the loss of loved ones, the depiction of sex and violence, bears and the New England countryside . The writer's career in the book resembles that of Irving himself, making Last Night in Twisted River Irving's most autobiographical novel to date.
