The leucine aminopeptidase (LAP) is a enzyme of protein metabolism, the L-peptides and amino acid amides and Aminoarylamide N hydrolyzed -terminal. In humans , it occurs mainly in the intestines , kidneys , bile , gastric juice , saliva and plasma. The determination is made by measuring the conversion of L-leucine- p -nitranilide to p -nitraniline. Leucine aminopeptidase is rarely determined. However, it is well suited for differential diagnosis of increased AP . If the LAP is normal with increased AP, bone disease is likely. An increase in LAP is found above all in cholestasis , biliary tract infections, tumors and pregnancy. Decreased values can be observed in hypovolemia .
Normal values : women: 16 - 32 U / l, men: 11 - 35 U / l (determined from 1 ml serum)
Occurrence
The LAP is found in all living things; it has been detected in a large number of bacteria , protozoa , fungi , plants and animals .
