Leucoraja is a genus from the family of the real rays (Rajidae), which occur in the western, northern and eastern Atlantic , in the Mediterranean and the eastern Indian Ocean .

features

Usually the tail of this species is about the same length or slightly longer than the body of the animals. Their tail is wide at the beginning and gradually thins out. Young rays have a number of small thorns on their backs that extend from head to tail, but these disappear again with increasing age. At the same time, one or more parallel rows of thorns form, which run around the back as a half-ring. The back is colored light brown, dark brown or dark depending on the species and is marked with light patterns, spots or rings. Their body is usually heart-shaped, relatively wide and usually rounded at the outer corners. Their snout is moderately short and wide, and thorns can also be found at the tip of the snout. This genus is about 40 to 150 centimeters tall and has 64 to 81 vertebrae.
