Leucippus (son of Lampros)
Leukippos ( Greek Λεύκιππος ) is the male name of the daughter of Lampros and Galateia in the Cretan Phaistos in Greek mythology .
Lampros had ordered his wife Galateia during pregnancy to kill her child after birth if it was not a boy. After the birth of a daughter, Galateia withholds the true gender of the child from her husband and raises it as a boy with the name Leukippos. When she reaches puberty and the sex can no longer be hidden, Galateia asks the goddess Leto to transform the girl into a boy, which the goddess fulfills.
In honor of Leto Phytia and Leucippus, the festival Ekdysia ( Ἐκδύσια ) was celebrated in Phaistos , at which sacrifices were made to Leto Phytia . Before the wedding night, the brides in Phaistos were first laid next to the Xoanon of Leucippus, which was presumably hermaphroditic . The name of the festival suggests that ritual acts were performed with clothing. It is unclear whether the Xoanons were ritually undressed or the party attendees swapped clothes.
