Ludwig Schwarzer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ludwig Schwarzer (born October 16, 1912 in Vienna , † February 5, 1989 in Linz ) was an Austrian painter .

Life

Schwarzer studied from 1930 to 1934 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Karl Sterrer and Josef Jungwirth. After completing his studies, he worked as a freelancer, first in Vienna and later in Linz.

After realistic and later expressionist attempts, he found his own style from 1960, in which he combined the eye-deceptive technique of the trompe-l'oeil with surreal motifs. Owl bodies are connected to human heads, for example, bird heads sit on female figures or cardboard figures carry targets in front of their chests. Connections to international surrealism can be established as well as to the representatives of the “ Viennese School of Fantastic Realism ”. In 1966 the first solo exhibition took place in Munich , later also in Vienna, Linz, Salzburg and Düsseldorf .
