Leung Ting
Leung Ting ( Chinese 梁挺 , Pinyin Liang Tǐng , Jyutping Loeng 4 Ting 5 ; . Kant debate about " Loeng Ting "; * 28. February 1947 , Hong Kong ) is a representative of the southern Chinese martial art Wing Chun , he under his in the USA protected name Leung Ting WingTsun ( 梁 挺 詠 春 / 梁 挺 咏 春 ) or Leung Ting WingTsun Kung Fu represents. He is the founder and president of the International Wing Tsun Association (IWTA) .
Life
According to his own statements, he learned Wing Chun since he was 13 years old. In early 1960 he began to learn Wing Chun from his first teacher Leung Sheung ( 梁 相 , Liáng Xiàng , Jyutping Loeng 4 Soeng 3 ), the first official student of Yip Man in Hong Kong.
Wing Tsun
Leung Ting uses the proper spelling WingTsun for his martial art style - note the missing space between the words, which is derived from the non-standardized transcription of Cantonese for the martial art Wing Chun ( 詠 春 / 咏 春 , Yǒngchūn , Yung-Ts'un , Jyutping Wing 6 ceon 1 , Cantonese Wing Chun - “prices for spring”).
Leung Ting is also chairman of the Hong Kong- based International WingTsun Association (IWTA) he founded. In the graduation system that he introduced, he holds the highest rank. Leung Ting has and had numerous students all over the world, many of whom later founded their own schools and associations based on the IWTA model. Some of these associations now compete with the IWTA and use their own martial arts spelling, which they have protected as a trademark. The most commercially successful of his students is the German Keith Kernspecht , who in turn founded and heads the EWTO (European Wing Tsun Organization) as a branch of the IWTA.
Trivia
In 2009, Leung Ting was charged with abuse and domestic violence by his girlfriend at the time, Lip, Sik Ying Rita ( 聶 式 盈 / 聂 式 盈 , Niè Shìyíng ) . On April 29, 2010, he was acquitted of the allegations in the second instance.
