The Leutnant was a sea tug on the German East Africa Line .

history

The Leutnant was built in Roßlau on the Elbe and came into service with the German East-Africa Line in 1912. The tug and tender was a twin screw ship with 500 hp and a service speed of 10 knots. With its maneuverability thanks to the two ship's propellers and the powerful drive, the sea tug and tender was ideally suited to support merchant ships in the mostly still technically inadequate ports on the East African coast.

When the First World War broke out in August 1914, the lieutenant sought refuge in the Portuguese port of Beira in Mozambique, as Portugal and its colonies were neutral.

Her further fate is still unclear.
