Levan Songulashvili ( Georgian ლევან სონღულაშვილი ; born August 17, 1991 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian painter , installation artist and graphic artist . He lives in New York City .

biography

Songulashvili started painting at the age of three and received professional drawing lessons in his hometown during his youth.

In 2011 the 19-year-old artist was invited to Germany as part of a visual art project, where he designed a play with his German colleagues. Western culture, German philosophy and psychoanalysis influenced the young artist's worldview, and when he returned to Georgia, he carried out new creative experiments and a conceptual investigation. That was the beginning of a new phase in his art, followed by significant success.

At the age of 21, Songulashvili graduated from the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts with a bachelor's degree in drawing and printmaking. He has won several merit scholarships and art awards and became the first Georgian artist to receive his Masters (MFA) degree from The New York Academy of Art and Painting . In 2017, the USA granted Songulashvili a Genius Visa , which allows him to stay permanently in the USA.

He has received a number of national and international awards, including The Presidents Award and The New York State Assembly Award, for achievement and contribution to the arts. His art-winning works, combining the old mastery with today's unique technology and multimedia installation, are exhibited in prestigious art galleries, private collections and museums around the world, including Sotheby's (NYC), The Royal Academy of Arts, Saatchi Gallery and many more .

He is the first Georgian artist whose work has been selected for a permanent collection in the Brooklyn Museum, New York City.

Songulashvili is one of the top artists of the year and took first place out of 10 in ArtistADay 2017, led by creators from around the world from a selection at the end of the year.

Songulashvili also writes psychological prose, essays and poems and plays the piano.
