Lev Dmitrievich Muchin ( October 15, 1936 - April 25, 1977 ) was a Soviet boxer . He won at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne the silver medal in the heavyweight division.

Career

Lev Mukhin began the age of fifteen in 1951 in Rostov-on-Don with the boxes . He belonged to the sports association Spartak and was trained by his trainer KM Sokolow to be a powerful and technically good heavyweight boxer. In 1955 he started with great success in the Soviet heavyweight championship. He only lost in the final against Richardas Juschkenas from Riga .

In 1956 he was back in the final battle at the Soviet championship. Here he met the experienced old master and two-time European champion Algirdas Šocikas from Kaunas , who won against the young Muchin just on points. Surprisingly, Lew Muchin was nominated for the Melbourne Olympics in 1956 . There he won in the round of 16 against Boschko Lozanow from Bulgaria by KO in the 3rd round, in the quarterfinals against Thomer Ashman from Sweden by KO in the 1st round and in the semifinals against Giacomo Bozzano from Italy by KO in the 3rd round. In the final he met Pete Rademacher from the USA . In a duel with extremely powerful fighters, Rademacher was the luckier one, because he hit Muchin sooner than Muchin did and was knocked out and Olympic champion in the first round . In general, the heavyweight competition in Melbourne went down in sports history, because of ten fights that took place in this weight class, eight ended prematurely.

After these Olympics, Lew Muchin's career, which had started so promisingly, was practically over. He only appeared once again in an important competition in the list of winners when he finished 3rd behind Andrei Abramow and Janis Lancers at the Soviet heavyweight championship in 1960 . In the semi-finals, he was beaten by Janis Lancers on points.

Lew Muchin died in 1977 at the age of only 40.
