Lewis L. Lorwin

Lewis Levine Lorwin ( December 4, 1883 , † June 6, 1970 ) was an American economist and social scientist of Russian-Jewish origin.

The brother of the composer Mischa Levitzki received his doctorate from Columbia University in 1912 . He then taught at Columbia and at the University of Montana , where he was professor of economics from 1916 to 1919. This is where his book Taxation of Mines in Montana was written . He was later Associate Editor of New York World and Russia Correspondent for the Chicago Daily News and Professor at Beloit College . In 1924 he published a book on the history of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union under the title The Woman's Garment Workers . Further writings on economic history and the history of the labor movement followed.
