Lewis Taylor

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lewis Taylor is a British soul and funk performer and multi - instrumentalist.

He is the son of divorced Jewish parents and comes from north London.

After working as a greengrocer, he recorded two LPs in the 1980s under the pseudonym "Sherrif Jack", the melodious psychedelia rock of which led critics to compare them with Jimi Hendrix or Prince.

He later worked again under his real name. The debut album was the self-titled "Lewis Taylor" from 1997. The album received critical acclaim. Lewis had played almost all of the instruments himself. The songs were characterized by intricate structures, virtuosity and sometimes cryptic lyrics and titles. However, commercial success failed to materialize.

This shortcoming, as well as the lack of support from major labels , continued throughout his career. Lewis Taylor, on the other hand, is seen as a musical genius by his fans.

Lewis Taylor made the last attempt with the "Lost Album", which differs significantly from its predecessors. It's more of an homage to sophisticated 1970s pop and is reminiscent of Brian Wilson in style.

In 2006 Taylor announced that he would no longer work in the music industry and would no longer perform.
