Leyton is an above-ground station on the London Underground in the London Borough of Waltham Forest . It is in the Travelcard tariff zone 3 on Leyton High Street and is served by the Central Line . In 2014, 14.07 million passengers used this station served by the Central Line.

The opening of the station took place on August 22, 1856 under the name Low Leyton by the Eastern Counties Railway (ECR), as part of the newly built line from Stratford to Loughton , which was extended nine years later to Ongar . The successor company to the ECR, the Great Eastern Railway , changed its name to Leyton on November 27, 1868 . The current station buildings were built in 1879 when the facility was completely rebuilt. Among other things, the level crossing was replaced by a pedestrian bridge. From 1923 Leyton belonged to the London and North Eastern Railway. After some structural adjustments, the line on which the station is located was used for the first time by Central Line trains on May 5, 1947.

In the 1990s, the multi-lane expressway A12 was built along the railway line . The northern exit with the switch house built in 1901 had to give way to this building project. With a view to the 2012 Olympic Games (the northern end of the Olympic Park is nearby ), the eastern platform received two new entrances, which doubled the station's capacity.
