Li Zhisui

Li Zhisui (* 1920 in Beijing , China , † February 13, 1995 in Chicago , Illinois , USA ) was one of Mao Zedong's numerous doctors .

Li Zhisui, descendant of a long line of Chinese physicians, graduated from Sichuan University in 1945 with a degree in medicine . From 1950 he was a member of the medical college that treated Mao Zedong, in 1954 Mao chose him as his personal physician , which he remained until Mao's death in 1976. Li then worked in various positions as a doctor in China , and in 1988 he and his wife followed their two sons to the United States .

In 1994 Li Zhisui published a biography of Mao translated into numerous languages, which was banned in China and became a bestseller in English-speaking countries in particular .
