Liam Ridgewell (born July 21, 1984 in London ) is a former English football player .

Career

youth

Ridgewell was in Bexleyheath , a small town in the London Borough of Bexley . He joined West Ham United at the age of 15 . In February 2001 he moved from Aston Villa to his youth . With the team he won the FA Youth Cup in 2002 .

Aston Villa

Ridgewell was loaned to the AFC Bournemouth in the Football League Third Division at the beginning of his professional career . During this month-long loan, he completed five players. He made his debut on October 13, 2002 in a league game against Hartlepool United .

His first game for Aston Villa took place on January 4, 2003. In an FA Cup game against Blackburn Rovers , he was substituted on in the 69th minute. Almost a year later he was also on the pitch at a Premier League game.

Birmingham City

In August 2007 he moved to Birmingham City for three million euros , where he signed a three-year contract with an option for two more years. He was the first player since 1984 to switch between the two local rivals.
