The Liambesisee ( English Lake Liambezi ) is a lake in northeastern Namibia in the Zambezi region .
description
The lake is located in the lower reaches of the Cuando in the Caprivi Strip , right on the border with Botswana . It lies at the end of the Linyanti swamps, where the Cuando (Linyanti) is dammed at a fault.
The lake is a holdover from the Zambezi - Okavango river development and is one of the last remnants of the Paleo Makgadikgadi Lake .
Water flow
Until it was completely dry in 1986, it was the largest lake in the country with an area of up to 100 km² .
For the first time in 2004 or 2008 the lake, fed by the Chobe from the Zambezi , filled with water again and was permanently filled from 2009 onwards. It has almost completely dried out since 2016.
