Liar Game (originally in capitals ) is a manga series by Shinobu Kaitani that was released in Japan from 2005 to 2014. The work, which can be classified into the genres of mystery , thriller and drama, was adapted as a television series and in two films.

The sincere and somewhat naive student Nao Kanzaki ( 神 崎 直 ) one day receives a message and 100 million yen. She is now part of the "Liar Game", a game about money in which the aim is to lie to and outsmart the opponent. If she loses money in the process, she gets into debt. She can keep a profit. She is about to be stolen from Kazuo Fujisawa ( 藤 沢 和 雄 ), a former teacher and participant in the game. With the help of the psychologist and trick thief Shinichi Akiyama ( 秋山 深 一 ) she can get her money back.
Together, Nao and Shinichi decide to win the game in order to defeat the organization behind it. In doing so, they want to pay the debts of all who defeat them so that they can leave the game. With Kazuo Fujisawa they start with that and from then on have to deal with new opponents and also with rules and types of the game.

The manga was published from 2005 in the magazine Weekly Young Jump from the publisher Shueisha , who has published chapters in 19 anthologies. In August 2014, the publication in the magazine was completed.
A German version was published in full by Egmont Manga from April 2013 to October 2016 . Tonkam published a French translation, Kana a Dutch one.
In addition, the short story collection Liar Game roots of A: Kaitani Shinobu Tampenshū (LIAR GAME roots of A 甲 斐 谷 忍 短 編 集 ; ISBN 978-4-08-877476-3 ) was published in Japan on July 18, 2008 and das Fact book LIAR GAME / Invitation ( ISBN 978-4-08-782252-6 ).
Adaptations
Series
The series was implemented as a drama for Japanese television. The first eleven-part season was broadcast from April 14, 2007 to June 23, 2007 by Fuji TV . From November 10, 2009 to January 19, 2010, a second season followed with nine episodes on the same broadcaster. The main roles were Erika Toda and Shota Matsuda .
In 2009 and 2010, Liar Game: Episode Zero was also produced, a twelve-part series based on the manga, which was published on the Internet.
In 2014, the South Korean television broadcaster tvN produced the series of the same name, Liar Game, starring Kim So-eun , Lee Sang-yoon and Shin Sung-rok .

A first film on the manga came to Japanese cinemas in 2010 with Liar Game: The Final Stage . Hiroaki Matsuyama directed this, as well as the second film Liar Game: Reborn . This premiered on March 3, 2012.
