The Lebanese Democratic Party ( French Parti démocratique libanais , Arabic الحزب الديمقراطي اللبناني al-Hizb ad-dimuqrati al-lubnani ) is a political party in Lebanon that was founded in 2001 by the Druze Prince Talal Arslan . Prince Talal is the son of the Druze leader L'Emir Magid Arslan and chairs his party.

The Lebanese Democratic Party is committed to the politics of resistance, ecology and nonviolence. It is officially secular and has members from all Lebanese denominations, but most of its support comes from Druze, who support the Arslan family. The party is a member of the Alliance of March 8 , is now part of the Bloc Change and Reform .

history

The party has been represented in the Lebanese parliament since it was founded, most recently being re-elected in the 2005 and 2009 elections. Prince Talal Arslan won a seat in parliament representing Aley district and three others won seats for Babda district .

The rival Druze party has been the Progressive Socialist Party of Walid Jumblatt . In July 2011, Prince Talal appointed his brother-in-law Marwan Kheireddine as Minister of State to represent himself and his family in the newly formed government .
