Loch Carn a 'Mhaoil , is a lake on the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay . It is located in the sparsely populated, hilly region in the southeast of the island. The closest settlement is Kintour, about two kilometers to the east . The maximum length of the lake is around 580 m and a width of 240 m. Loch Carn a 'Mhaoil is fed by four small streams. In the east, the Allt Loch Carn a 'Mhaoil flows off, one of the headwaters of the Kintour River , which flows into the Sound of Jura in Aros Bay . The lake is suitable for fishing.
In the area around Loch Carn a 'Mhaoil there are several remains of previous settlement. The remains of a fort were found on a hill to the northwest . This once measured 76 m × 15 m and was surrounded by a 2.80 m thick wall. The remains of another fort are to the west on An Dun hill . The 94 m × 35 m measuring system was enclosed with a one meter high and one up to 2.50 m thick wall. There was once a dun to the south-east of the lake, measuring 16 mx 12 m and surrounded by a 80 cm high wall. There are also remains of several Shieling huts in the vicinity of Loch Carn a 'Mhaoil .
