Construction of the Imago

The animal reaches a length between 52 and 60 mm, of which the abdomen is 32 to 40 mm.

The color of the species is dominated by a red-orange hue. The face of young animals is initially light brown, but becomes bright red with age. The thorax and abdomen are brick red and white. In females, on the other hand, these tend to have a brownish tinge.

The red also continues in the wings, which reach a length of 41 to 45 mm and are criss-crossed by red veins . There is also a dark brown stripe on the rear wing. Furthermore, an amber-colored shadow extends over the wing from the base to the pterostigma and the legs are also reddish.

Construction of the larva

The larva reaches a size of 28 mm, has a rounded abdomen and is very hairy.
