The Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan ( Uzbekiston Oʻzbekiston Liberal Democracy Partiyasi , abbreviation Oʻzlidep ; Russian Либерально-демократическая партия Узбекистeiстана ) has been an official political party in Uzbekistan since 2007.

The Liberal Democratic Party was founded on November 15, 2003. In its own opinion, the party supports the so-called Third Way . She is seen by the opposition as authoritarian and conservative.

Election results

In the parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan in 2004/05 , the party won 41 of the 120 seats in Oliy Majlis , making it the strongest faction in parliament. In the subsequent parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan in 2009/10 , the party was able to defend this status with 53 seats in the now 150-member parliament.

On October 4, 2007, the party decided to nominate President Islam Karimov as its candidate in the 2007 presidential election, although many saw Karimov as unsuitable for a further term from the point of view of legal validity.

On November 6, Karimov was unanimously elected as the presidential candidate of the Liberal Democratic Party at the party congress in the capital Tashkent at the nomination party congress ; he accepted the nomination. Until then he was chairman of the People's Democratic Party of Uzbekistan .
