The People's Democratic Party of Uzbekistan ( Uzbek : Oʻzbekiston Xalq Demokratie Partiyasi , abbreviation OXDP or XDP) is a political party in Uzbekistan and for a long time was the conservative nationalist ruling party of the young state. The party accepts the authoritarian leadership of the country and regards itself as value conservative .

history

The party was officially founded on November 1, when the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic gained independence from the Soviet Union .

The Communist Party of the Uzbek SSR decided in October 1991 to break away from the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and to change its name to the People's Democratic Party - OXDP . At the same time, the party experienced a strong shift to the right from socialism to conservatism.

For a long time the party was led by the late President Islom Karimov . Karimov changed parties, however, and was then chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan . From 2013 to 2019 Hotamjon Ketmonov was party chairman and presidential candidate of the party in the 2015 and 2016 presidential elections in Uzbekistan . In 2019 Ulugʻbek Inoyatov became the new leader of the People's Democratic Party.
