history

The Liberal People's Party was founded after the creation of the Saar area as a mandate area of the League of Nations from the German People's Party . It declared that it was created on the basis of the Versailles Treaty at the beginning of its foundation and declared that it would limit its activities to the Saar area.

When the government commission of the Saar region began its work, the Liberal People's Party was formed from representatives from industry and business. The first members included the chairman Wilhelm Schmelzer , Hermann Röchling (Kommerzienrat), Luitwin von Boch (chairman of the Chamber of Commerce ) and Max von Vopelius (deputy chairman of the economic association ).

In the 1922 election campaign, the Liberal People's Party essentially took the following positions:

  1. "Struggle for the rights and welfare of the Saar people by the Geneva delegations"
  2. "Struggle of the German population against the French annexation policy"
  3. "Care for the economic future of the Saar region in the fight against the failed policy of the government commission"

She received 12.8 percent of the vote in the election to the regional council and was able to move into the 1st regional council of the Saar region with four mandates . The four elected officials were Friedrich Fuchs , Hermann Röchling, Wilhelm Schmelzer and Max von Vopelius.

In 1924 the Liberal People's Party merged with the Democratic Party to form the German-Saarland People's Party.
