Max von Vopelius

Max von Vopelius (born July 27, 1872 in Sulzbach / Saar , † July 13, 1932 ) was a Saarland glass manufacturer and politician .

He was the son of Richard von Vopelius , a glassworks owner from Sulzbach. In 1892 Max von Vopelius passed his matriculation examination at the Ludwigsgymnasium Saarbrücken . He studied chemistry , law and economics at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg and in 1893 became a member of the Corps Guestphalia Heidelberg . He finished his studies at the Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Berlin , where he in 1895 to Dr. phil. PhD .

In 1924 he founded the Richard-Hütte for glass manufacturing in Sulzbach , where he used new techniques for the production of sheet glass. After the competition had also adapted to the technology, his company was no longer competitive. His hut was closed in 1929.

Max von Vopelius was chairman of the employers' association of the Saar area, chairman of the German Glastechnische Gesellschaft and chairman of the thermal engineering advice center of the German glass industry . He was also a member of the Saar Regional Council from 1922 to 1928 for the Liberal People's Party (from 1924: German-Saarland People's Party).
