The Libertad publishing house is a German publishing house . Libertad Verlag Berlin was founded at the end of 1976 in Berlin-Neukölln . Today the publishing house is based in Potsdam .

history

Its founding members and operators, to which the social scientist and publicist Jochen Schmück belonged from the beginning and until today , originally came from the anarchist school and apprentice movement. The social philosophy and social history of anarchism as well as the libertarian movements related to it were the main topics of the publishing program. They are still characteristic of the publishing house today, even if the range of topics has expanded significantly over the years.

The publishing house, like Karin Kramer Verlag , OPPO-Verlag and Nevertheless Verlag, is one of the early anarchist publishers that emerged in the aftermath of the 1968 revolt in Germany and has published books by libertarian authors or on libertarian topics for decades.

Series of publications

Die Anarchistische texte , a series of publications published in loose succession until 1984, tries to familiarize oneself with the historical development and the various theoretical currents of anarchism using selected source texts. In two interrelated editions, the focus was on the following topics:

I. Philosophy and theory of anarchism
(anarchist texts No. 1–14)

II. Practice and Movement of Anarchism
(Anarchist Texts No. 15–29)

Continuing and supplementing the first two editions, an expanded III. Edition of the anarchist texts published, which contains both historical and current writings.

The range of topics of Edition Black Cherries is broader in terms of content . This series of paperback books, which has been published and popular since 1979, includes writings on the following topics:

  • Philosophy and practice of libertarian movements,
  • Freedom socialism versus state socialism,
  • Anthropology and ethnology,
  • Emancipation of the sexes,
  • Literature and Art of Revolt.

The book series Archive for Social and Cultural History , which has been published since 1987, serves an in-depth academic examination of the history of social and countercultural movements . This series aims to promote the research and documentation of those social and culturally emancipatory movements that were hardly or only insufficiently considered by established historiography. The focus is on the representation of the German-speaking libertarian movements. So far, titles on the following topics have appeared in this series:

  • History of ideas of classical anarchism
  • Social history of German-speaking anarchism and anarcho-syndicalism
  • History of related libertarian movements such as B. the German-speaking free economy movement

Since the end of the 1990s, Libertad Verlag has concentrated on the publication of the Database of German-speaking Anarchism (DadA), which has been published with all its documentation both on CD and in a freely accessible online version.
