Peter Lowry (born October 2, 1985 in Missoula , Montana ) is an American football player in the position of midfielder and striker . Since 2011 he has been under contract with the Portland Timbers franchise, which plays in Major League Soccer (MLS), the top division in North American football.

Career

Career start in California

Peter Lowry was born in 1985 in the city of Missoula , Montana, USA, to Tom and Colleen Lowry. With his parents, older sister Lisa and younger brother Dan, Peter Lowry moved to Fair Oaks in the state of California at a young age , where he also grew up. In 2001, Lowry, who was among other things also in the youth training clubs Irvine Strikers Soccer Club and San Juan Soccer Club and played especially during his high school time in these amateur clubs, to the Bella Vista High School in Fair Oaks. Already in 2001 he was allowed to call himself U-16 National Champion and scored the decisive goal in the season finals. He was also the team captain of the San Juan SC earlier this year . During his junior season at Bella Vista High, Lowry was already elected to the All Orange County team and developed into a very strong offensive player by his senior season. After further successes with the team, such as numerous individual honors (including the election to NSCAA All-American in 2002 ), he again celebrated numerous successes in his senior year at high school. He won four league titles and one section title with the team and was also named MVP in the McDonald's All-American Game . In this game he led his team as captain to a sovereign 5-2 victory. Because of his performance, Lowry was brought into the US U-18 selection, where he was mostly only in the extended squad. He was also from 2001 to 2004 four times in the All-League selection. In his senior year he had a record of 29 goals and 20 assists.

Admission to Santa Clara University

In the same year of his graduation from Bella Vista High School, Lowry moved to Santa Clara University , where he chose finance as a major and was part of the soccer team of the university's own sports department, the Santa Clara Broncos , from the start. In his freshman year, Lowry appeared as a midfielder in 20 championship games, scoring four goals and putting in another two for his teammates. At the end of the season he was included in the All- WCC Freshman Team and also in the list of honor and the honor table by the Commissioner of the West Coast Conference (WCC). In his year as a sophomore , he was used as a central midfielder in 22 games and thus had four hits and as many assists. At the end of the season, Lowry was elected to the TDS Second Team National Team of the Season , the All-WCC Second Team and the Maryland adidas Classic All-Classic Team . The young offensive player already spent half of his junior year as a midfielder and half as a striker. He was used in 23 championship games, in which he scored six goals and contributed two assists. Due to his offensive performance, he was increasingly used as a striker and in other offensive positions in his senior year 2007. After elections to the All-WCC Second Team and the All-Far West Region First Team in 2006, numerous other awards followed in 2007. In his 22 missions, in which he scored eight goals and prepared a further seven, he was often named WCC Player of the Week and in September 2007 was even voted Player of the Month for the entire Conference. In that year he was also used for the US U-23 selection, for which he completed two games on a tour of Japan in February . There he played against the Japanese U-22 national team and the men's team from Roasso Kumamoto . Awards and honors for Lowry this season were the choice for the All-WCC First Team , the Brown adidas Classic All-Tournament Team , the College Soccer News All-American First Team or the NSCAA All-Far West Region First Team . He was also elected to Lowe's Senior CLASS Award All-Senior All-America Second Team and was also WCC Player of the Year and a semi-finalist for receiving the MAC Hermann Trophy . In 2005 and 2006 Lowry was a member of the PDL team Boulder Rapids Reserve and came up with a record of eleven appearances and one goal. Also in 2004, the offensive player was used in the North American fourth division when he completed three goalless league games for the San José Frogs .

Draft to Chicago Fire

About the MLS SuperDraft 2008 , Lowry finally made it to the MLS franchise Chicago Fire in 2008 , to which he was drafted as the 26th pick in the second round. Of the successes that Lowry still had at university, suddenly little was noticeable in the MLS team. His first and only competitive game for the professional team he completed during the third round game in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup 2008 against the Cleveland City Stars , where he played through the full 90 minutes in the 4-1 win. He made his team debut on May 21, when he was used in the friendly against Wisła Kraków over the full game. Also in the 2-0 victory over Everton , Lowry was in action over half time. Most of the time in the 2008 season, however, the offensive player spent in the MLS Reserve Division , where he appeared as the team's most dangerous player. In his twelve championship appearances, he brought it to five goals and three assists. In the following season, the game year 2009 , the trained midfielder was able to assert himself somewhat, but was still far from becoming a regular player. He made his MLS debut on July 18 in a 2-0 home win over the San José Earthquakes . His first full game match was on August 9 in a 3-2 loss to Houston Dynamo . His best performance of the season was on September 20 in a 2-2 draw against the Columbus Crew , when he scored both goals for his team. By the end of the season, when the team again emerged as champions of the Eastern Conference regular season , Lowry had made nine league appearances, eight of which he was on the pitch from the start, and three goals. In the 2010 season he came to his most season appearances for the club from the Chicago area ( Bridgeview ). He was used in 15 league games in which he scored two goals. He was also used in various other competitions and friendly matches that year. While he was already in use with the team in the North American SuperLiga in 2009 and made it to the finals, he was also used in this tournament in 2010 .

Switch to the Timbers

In the MLS Expansion Draft 2010 Lowry was, as previously expected due to the few missions in the course of the season, not "protected" by his franchise and was therefore released or issued for a change. So he was also selected on November 24, 2010 by the new MLS franchise, the Portland Timbers , via the draft system. Lowry, who made a total of 24 league appearances and five goals at Chicago Fire, but did not want to stay with the team until the end, hopes for a breakthrough as a professional footballer. In the still young 2011 season , Peter Lowry was used in two championship games (as of April 22, 2011).
