The Super League in 2010 , the fourth football competition of the Super League , was held from 14 July to 1 September 2010 in four different stadiums in the United States instead. The four best MLS franchises of the regular season , which did not qualify for the CONCACAF Champions League 2010/11 , as well as four football clubs from the Mexican Primera División , where the system was similar, took part.
The Mexican club Monarcas Morelia won the North American SuperLiga for the first time in their club history after a 2-1 final victory over the MLS franchise New England Revolution . The top scorer was Monarcas player Miguel Sabah with four goals.
A total of 139,422 people attended the 15 games in the tournament and saw 34 goals (excluding goals on penalties after regular time). During the entire tournament, 56 yellow, five yellow-red and three red cards were awarded.
qualification
The participating teams qualified for the 2010 SuperLiga using the qualification rules drawn up by their respective leagues (Major League Soccer and Primera División).
On April 28, 2010, the MLS announced that the four best teams of the regular season would qualify for the tournament. However, if these clubs had already qualified for the CONCACAF Champions League that same year, the next best teams would compete in the tournament. Since three of the four best teams in the 2009 season , Columbus Crew as the winner of the MLS Supporters' Shield , Los Angeles Galaxy as the MLS Cup finalist and Seattle Sounders FC as the winner of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup of the 2009 season , automatically for the Champions League had qualified, you had to resort to the next best franchises.
The Mexican Primera División also announced that the four best-placed teams from the overall annual table for the 2009/10 season (Clausura 2009 and Apertura 2009) will qualify for the SuperLiga 2010 if they have not already qualified for the CONCACAF Champions League otherwise. Since Deportivo Toluca as Bicentenario winner 2010 and overall first, CF Monterrey as Aperura winner 2009 and third overall, Santos Laguna as Bicentenario second in 2010 and overall seventh as well as CD Cruz Azul as Apertura second in 2009 and overall eighth are automatically eligible for participation in the Champions League you had to access the next best teams.

Game format
The format is the same as in the SuperLiga competitions in recent years. The teams are divided into two groups, with two teams from the USA and two from Mexico in each group. The two teams that are best positioned in their respective group at the end of the group phase take part in the subsequent knockout round, the actual semi-finals.
Group stage
Tie-break criteria :
If two teams are in the same place in the event of a tie, the following four criteria determine the position of the two teams in the group table:
- Goal difference
- goals scored
- Head-to-head statistics (comparison of both teams)
- coin toss
These rules were re-compiled before the SuperLiga 2010 in order to adapt to the international standards for equality of points. Since the head-to-head statistics were still used as the first tie-breaker in the past SuperLiga seasons , they had to give way to third place according to international standards.
