Luis Gabriel Rey (born February 20, 1980 in Bucaramanga ) is a former Colombian football player on the position of striker who has played almost his entire career in Mexico.
Life
Rey began his professional career at his hometown club Atlético Bucaramanga , but soon moved to Mexico , where he was initially under contract with various clubs in the Mexican second league . He started in the 2000/01 season with the Lobos de la BUAP , which, however, did not play second class in the coming season, so Rey was used for the Potros Zitácuaro, a team that was only available in the 2001/02 season. Before the 2002/03 season he was transferred to the Marte successor club, CF Acapulco, before he moved to CF Atlante in early 2003 and was used for the first time in the first division .
Within his first year in the Mexican Primera División he was the top scorer of the Apertura 2003 with 15 goals in the 2003/04 season . In that year he also made the leap to the Colombian national team , for which he was used a total of 16 times until 2007 and scored four goals.
The longest station of his professional career was Monarcas Morelia , where he was initially under contract from the beginning of 2005 to mid-2007 for a period of two and a half years and to which he returned in summer 2009. Still under contract with the Monarcas, Rey has been on loan to league rivals Jaguares de Chiapas since summer 2011 . After two years he moved to Club America , with which he won the Apertura 2014 . In early 2015 he joined Puebla FC . He returned to the Monarcas in early 2016, where he retired in 2017.
His greatest success at club level was in the 2007/08 season, when he won the CONCACAF Champions' Cup 2008 with CF Pachuca . His part in this success was immense, because in both finals against the Costa Rican representative Saprissa (1: 1 and 2: 1) he scored one goal each.
