Keratosis pilaris (of gr. Union "Moss, Lichen" and pilus "hair", German " Hornknötchenflechte " and medically also keratosis pilaris or keratosis follicularis ) refers to a disorder of keratinization of hair follicles .

Keratosis pilaris is one of the atopy stigmata . It affects people with a tendency to dry skin. Clinically, the grater skin shows up mainly on the extensor sides of the upper arms and thighs, partly on the buttocks, rarely in the lateral facial area. Small horn plugs close the openings in the hair follicles. Multiple, rough, keratotic, follicularly bound papules appear . In addition to the cosmetic and tangible ( haptic ) impairment, there are no restrictions due to a lichen pilaris. Keratolytics such as ointments containing urea , lactic acid or salicylic acid can be used therapeutically .
