history

In 1680 the Church of Our Lady was built in its present form on the site that is still there.

The wooden church initially standing here burned down in 1408, the following church, also mainly made of wood, stood for 200 years. It became dilapidated and demolished. The next church, built from 1610 to 1611 on the same site, was the victim of a fire on May 16, 1675. The service took place after this event in Peter's place.

At Christmas 1680, preaching took place again in the Liebfrauenkirche . In 1706 Johann Albrecht from Coburg built the organ . In the same year Johann Sebastian Bach visited Langewiesen as an organist from Arnstadt to test the new organ of the Liebfrauenkirche.

The bells were initially attached to the tower stump. The church tower was completed in 1715 because it had to be thoroughly overhauled due to the risk of collapse.

Eduard Schulze from Paulinzella installed the new organ in 1845. In 1891 the Pappe company delivered a new bell. The bells were delivered in the First World War . In 1919 steel bells came to Langewiesen as replacements. A bronze bell didn't come back until 1950.

In the GDR , the parish could only carry out the most urgent conservation measures. After the political change , the roof was re-tiled.
