Around 850 students are taught by around 65 teachers there. The catchment area covers the district of Kleve addition to the districts of Wesel and Viersen .

The vocational college is part of a school center that includes the Episcopal Realschule for girls, also known as the Liebfrauenschule , which opened in 1962, but is independent of the vocational college.

history

The vocational college Liebfrauenschule was founded in 1892 by the Sisters of Our Lady as an "agricultural housekeeping school" . In 1893 the school and boarding school were opened and inaugurated. In the course of a rather eventful history, changes in educational policy have resulted in the vocational college combining different courses with a focus on "nutrition and housekeeping" and "health and social affairs".

From 1919 onwards, women were trained as teachers of agricultural housekeeping in the newly established business school for women. As a result of the National Socialist school and education policy, agricultural teachers were no longer allowed to be trained in the economic women's school from 1935. The economic women's school was therefore converted into the higher rural women's school, the upper level of which had to be closed by decree of the Reich Minister for Science, Education and National Education in 1939. Parts of the school served as a hospital at the end of the Second World War.

On April 1, 1945, the rural women's school resumed teaching with 20 students. A year later, 120 students were already attending the upper and lower classes.

In the decades that followed, the Liebfrauenschule developed rapidly with the establishment of numerous new educational programs. These include, for example, the Fachschule für Wirtschafterinnen (1962), the two-year vocational school for nutrition and housekeeping (1966), the technical college for nutrition and housekeeping (1969), the then so-called technical college for social pedagogy / social work (1969), the technical school for social pedagogy ( 1971), the technical school for nutrition and home economics (1986), the technical school for curative education (1988) and the technical school for curative education care (1996). Since 2002, schoolchildren have also been trained as state-certified social assistants.

Since 1989, the Liebfrauenschule in Geldern has offered the possibility of attaining the general university entrance qualification in the vocational high school . The Liebfrauenschule was the first vocational college in North Rhine-Westphalia to open a course with the advanced course in nutrition with chemistry, and three years later with the advanced course in educational science. The Liebfrauenschule Geldern is the only vocational college in the Kleve district that can be acquired with an additional qualification as a leisure sports director.

Boys have also been taught at the Liebfrauenschule since 1971.

On January 1, 1976, the Sisters of Our Lady handed over the responsibility of the school to the diocese of Münster. The affiliated boarding school, which was closed at the end of the 2001/2002 school year, remained under the auspices of the order.

As early as 1985, when this was rather uncommon for schools, the school's own canteen was opened, offering menus and various snacks for students and teachers from Monday to Friday.
