Lieutenant Junior Grade

Lieutenant Junior Grade ( LTJG ) is an officer rank in the US Navy and US Coast Guard .

The LTJG leads as a junior officer ( junior officer ) enlisted personnel and Petty Officer . The regular salutation is Lieutenant . The officer must have served as an ensign for at least two years after receiving the officer license before he can be promoted to the LTJG (18 months in the US Coast Guard).

The US Navy and US Coast Guard LTJG is the equivalent of the US Army , US Marine Corps and US Air Force First Lieutenant . In the NATO rank code system, he has level OF-1a and is therefore also the equivalent of a first lieutenant at sea in the German Navy or a sub-lieutenant OF-1 in the Royal Navy and other navies that are based on the Commonwealth system.
