Sub-Lieutenant is an officer rank in the British Royal Navy and the Canadian Royal Canadian Navy . In the British Navy he is the entry rank for soldiers with a university degree, immediately below the rank of lieutenant (equivalent to German captain lieutenant). After completing the training when joining the force, the rank is confirmed and the officer license with the OF-1b , backdated to the initial attainment of the rank of sub-lieutenant, is issued. In the Canadian Navy, on the other hand, the entry rank is the Acting Sub-Lieutenant (A / Slt).

In NATO , a British and Canadian sub-lieutenant (SLt) is treated as equivalent to a German first lieutenant at sea .
