The film depicts the life of the animal inhabitants of a Moscow zoo and the people who look after them. Even during the war, life in the zoo has to work somehow, because the zoo in the Russian capital has many animals that want to be looked after and looked after. This is particularly difficult in times of deprivation. Animals are also gaining in importance for humans at a time when everything is changing. Some animals find their way into films and books and are hyped up to be animal heroes. Of course, life in the zoo cannot be compared to the life that animals lead in the wild, but their keepers and carers go out of their way to give them the care they need for their wellbeing.
