The League for the United Nations of the GDR was a social organization of the GDR to promote the activities of the UN . It existed from 1954 to 1990.

founding

In 1954 the "German League for the United Nations" was founded in Berlin . It was later renamed “League for the United Nations of the GDR” in order to differentiate it from the Federal Republic of Germany “ German Society for the United Nations ” (DGVN). In 1966, both German UN organizations were accepted as full members of the “ World Federation of Associations for the United Nations ” (FUNA). In the votes, the GDR League behaved in conformity with the corresponding organizations of the USSR and the Warsaw Pact states . The GDR League primarily focused on the problems of international security and the preservation of peace.

Inner organization
