The ligamentum latum uteri ("broad uterine ligament ") is part of the fastening apparatus of the uterus ( uterus ), the parametrium . It is a tent-roof-like thickening ( duplication ) of the peritoneum that covers the uterus from behind and represents the lateral connection to the pelvis . The ligament is made up of dense connective tissue .

The ovaries are located below the fallopian tubes and are attached by the ligamentum latum and the ligamentum ovarii proprium (ovarian ligament ). The main part of the ligamentum latum uteri between the ovary and the uterus is called the mesometrium and the area between the ovary and around the fallopian tubes is called the mesosalpinx . The portion that covers the ovary is the mesovarium or ovarian mesentery.
