Several ligaments between the ankle bone (talus) and heel bone (calcaneus) within the lower ankle joint are grouped under the name ligamentum talocalcaneum interosseum .

The two most important ligaments are the ligamentum colli and the ligamentum canalis tarsi . Both are more in the anterior region of the tarsal canal . They are the ligaments with the most proprioreceptors in the whole body and are important for the perception of the underground when running and standing. If these ligaments are damaged due to injuries and the lower ankle is immobilized as a result, the brain receives little proprioceptive information about the nature of the ground, which can lead to ankle twisting.
