The Lightning Seeds
The Lightning Seeds are a British rock band.
Band history
The band was founded by Ian Broudie (singer, songwriter, keyboardist and guitarist) and a few session musicians.
In the 1990s, The Lightning Seeds were among the better-known Britpop bands. After the opening success of the single Pure (1989), two more successful albums were created, whose singles Life of Riley , Sense , Lucky You or Change with very catchy melodies are still part of the standard repertoire of radio stations today.
In 1996, The Lightning Seeds produced the English team's official anthem for the 1996 European Football Championship in England, Three Lions (Football's Coming Home) , named after the three heraldic lions on England's national jerseys, and played it together with comedy duo David Baddiel and Frank Skinner . The song quickly became the number-one hit and international football anthem and was much more popular than the official tournament song We're in This Together by Simply Red . In 1998 the song was recorded again for the soccer World Cup in France and again reached the top of the charts in England . In the video for the 1998 version, Robbie Williams is among the fans. In addition, the majority of the German fans in the video wear the shirt with the number 11 on the back of Stefan Kuntz , whose last name, pronounced in English, is a swear word ( cunts ) and can be interpreted as an expression of the football rivalry between the two teams.
In the late 1990s, Ian Broudie concentrated on his solo career, which initially meant the end of the The Lightning Seeds project . On the occasion of the 2006 World Cup and the associated new edition of Three Lions (Football's Coming Home) , the band reunited; the best-of album The Very Best of the Lightning Seeds was released in England in June 2006 and in Germany in September 2007.
