Ian Broudie

Ian Broudie (born August 4, 1958 in Liverpool , England ) is an English pop musician and record producer .

Beginnings

Broudie started his music career in 1977 as a member of the punk band Big in Japan . a. who later belonged to Frankie Goes To Hollywood member Holly Johnson . After the band broke up after only 15 months, Broudie worked as a music producer, including for Echo & The Bunnymen and The Fall as well as The Bodines and The Pale Fountains.

From the end of 1979 Broudie played in the formation The Original Mirrors , which also included the later Status Quo drummer Pete Kircher . The Original Mirrors broke up in late 1981 after the recordings released on the major Mercury Records label were unsuccessful. In 1983 Broudie then formed the band Care with Paul Simpsons . Care released three singles , but soon broke up as well.

breakthrough

It wasn't until 1989 that Ian Broudie made his musical breakthrough: The album Cloudcuckooland by his new band The Lightning Seeds made it into the British charts . The single Pure reached number 16 on the charts.

In 1990 there was a band project called "The Wild Swans" with Ian Broudie and Paul Simpson. Together with the two former members of "The Icicle Works" Ian McNabb and Chris Sharrock, the album "Space Flowers" was released on Sire Records.

1996 brought Lightning Seeds and Ian Broudie their biggest hit: Three Lions , the official anthem for the 1996 European Football Championship in England. The song reached number 1 on the UK charts. Its title refers to the three lions depicted on the shirts of English football players.

Solo career

1999 Lightning Seeds' last album, Tilt , was to be released. After a farewell tour, the band broke up. In the following years Broudie worked again as a producer, among others for Terry Hall and the Liverpool bands The Coral and The Zutons . Most recently he produced the debut album of the London independent band The Rifles in 2006 .

Ian Broudie released his first solo album - Tales Told - in 2004. In contrast to the poppy sound of the Lightning Seeds albums, this album is calmly and sparingly orchestrated. In 2005 the EP Smoke Rings was released .

In 2009 a new album by the Lightning Seeds Four Winds was released .
