The Likomamulbrooder ( Placidochromis electra , Syn .: Haplochromis electra ) is a species of cichlid that is endemic to the area around the island of Likoma in the East African Lake Malawi .

features

Males can reach a length of 12 cm, females stay smaller. Likomamulbrooders are moderately high back and strongly flattened on the sides. Males are gray-brown in color, dominant males are light blue to purple. They show six to seven vertical, dark stripes on the sides of the body, the intensity of which decreases from front to back. Another dark stripe starts below the eye, runs along the corner of the mouth and ends under the muzzle. The dorsal fin is transparent and has a bluish shimmer. It is lined with black and white. The dark gray anal fin is lined with black, and there are no distinct egg spots. The pelvic fins are bluish, their front edge whitish. The unpaired fins are dotted orange. Females are smaller, gray-silvery in color and have a bluish shimmer. The dorsal and anal fins are not as clearly pointed as those of the males.

Way of life

The Likomamulcher occurs above sandy soils, mostly at depths between 7 and 15 meters, likes to swim and feeds on invertebrates and algae that have been torn away. Like all haplochromine cichlids, the Likomam mouthbrooder is a mouthbrooder in which the female takes care of the brood.
