Elisabeth Maria Josepha (Lilianne) Ploumen (born July 12, 1962 in Maastricht ) is a Dutch politician of the Partij van de Arbeid . She has been a member of the Second Chamber since March 23, 2017 . Ploumen was Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation in the Rutte II cabinet from November 5, 2012 to October 26, 2017 .

Life

From 1974 to 1980 Ploumen attended the Henrik van Veldeke College in Maastricht. She studied history at the Erasmus University Rotterdam and became a member of the GroenLinks party . After finishing her studies she worked as a social worker in Rotterdam - Crooswijk . From 1983 she worked for the Instituut voor Psychologische Marktonderzoek . From 1990 she worked for Plan International ; She worked for Plan International in London for two years from 1993 to 1995 . In 1996 she became director of the Mama Cash fund . In 2001 she left this organization and went to the Catholic institution Cordaid in The Hague .

In 2003 she changed politically from GroenLinks to PvdA; since October 6, 2007, Ploumen was its chairman. In January 2012, she resigned her position as chairwoman, which she surprisingly announced in early October 2011. Her successor was Hans Spekman .
