Johannes Leonardus (Hans) Spekman (born April 6, 1966 in Zevenhuizen , Zuidplas ) is a Dutch politician of the Partij van de Arbeid (PvdA).
Life
Spekman studied political science at the University of Amsterdam . From 1994 to 2001 he was a member of the Utrecht City Council . From November 2006 to January 2012 he was a member of the Second Chamber of the States General . On December 21, 2011, Spekman was elected to succeed Lilianne Ploumen as chairman of the PvdA. He took office on January 22, 2012 and at the same time resigned his parliamentary mandate. In October 2017 he was replaced as party leader by Nelleke Vedelaar .
