Liliencron Barracks

Location of the Liliencron barracks in Schleswig-Holstein

The Liliencron barracks existed as a military facility of the Bundeswehr in Kellinghusen , Steinburg district ( Schleswig-Holstein ) from 1964 to 2009. It was mainly occupied by artillery units.

history

In 1964, Federal Defense Minister Kai-Uwe von Hassel handed over the Liliencron barracks to the rocket artillery battalion 62. The barracks were named after the writer Detlev von Liliencron , whose works mostly deal with the subject of war. In 1965 the staff of 6th Artillery Regiment was relocated to Kellinghusen. In 1970 the observation battalion 6 (later observation battalion 63) was set up. This was later moved to the Hanseatic Barracks in Itzehoe . From 1981 the field artillery battalion 515 of the Territorial Army moved into the barracks. In 1993 this was merged with the Armored Artillery Battalion 185 from Boostedt as the Armored Artillery Battalion 515 . After the 6th Panzer Grenadier Division and the Armored Brigade 18 were dissolved , the last units left the facility in 2008 and the barracks were shut down.

The 13th US Army Field Artillery Detachment of the US armed forces set up the Kellinghusen special ammunition dump for tactical nuclear weapons nearby in 1966 . It was disbanded in the early 1990s. The last Americans left the barracks in 1992.

In 2013 the site was sold to Abdul-Matin Tatari despite concerns. A private clinic is to be built there for wealthy customers from the Middle East. Abdul-Matin Tatar was named in connection with the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks .

During the refugee crisis in Europe in 2015 , the barracks were set up as emergency accommodation.

particularities

The barracks had some memorial stones of former artillery units in the entrance area, today these are opposite the former main entrance in the honor grove of the Schleswig-Holstein artillery . Particularly noteworthy is the rocket artillery battalion 650 from Flensburg-Weiche , whose last Lance rocket launcher was exhibited on a meadow in front of the accommodations.
