Location of Liljeholmen in the Stockholm city area

Liljeholmen is a former Stockholm district and today's district with around 30,000 inhabitants. On January 1, 2007, the previous districts of Hägersten and Liljeholmen were incorporated as districts into the newly formed district of Hägersten-Liljeholmen .

Liljeholmen, which was still on the outskirts in the 19th century, became an industrial area early on. With the construction of the railroad through the area, workshops and industries began to settle along the railroad, including the workshops of the Swedish Railways (SJ) and Alfred Nobel's explosives factory. For the workers in the factories, workers' settlements sprang up nearby and Årstadal became one of the first suburbs in Stockholm at the end of the 19th century.

In 1913 Liljeholmen was incorporated, and with the construction of the Årstabrücke and the relocation of the railway line, the SJ workshops lost their importance. Instead, wholesale centers emerged. In the 1960s and 1970s, modern industrial and administrative complexes replaced the old mix of factories and residential areas in the southeastern district. At the same time, a modern residential area was built on Nybohovsberg. In the 1990s, another residential area was built on Nybodaberg.

Lake Trekanten is located in Liljeholmen.
