Liljendal [ ˈliljɛndɑːl ] was an independent municipality in the southern Finnish region of Ostuusimaa until 2009 . At the beginning of 2010 Liljendal was incorporated into the city of Loviisa .

The administrative center of the municipality of Liljendal was Sävträsk, 19 kilometers northeast of the core town of Loviisa. It also included the villages of Andersby, Drombom, Embom, Eskilom, Garpom, Hommansby, Hopom, Mickelspiltom and Weckum. In total, Liljendal had an area of ​​119.6 square kilometers. The last population was 1,472. 74.9% of them were Finland-Swedes . The municipality was officially bilingual with Swedish as the majority and Finnish as the minority language.

Liljendal Church

Unlike most bilingual places in Finland, Liljendal does not have a Finnish-speaking name. The community was named after the Liljendal estate in Sävträsk, the most famous resident of which was the baron and officer Carl Gustaf Armfeldt (1666–1736). Liljendal originally belonged to the parish of Pernå . Probably in 1734 Liljendal got its own prayer house , from 1791 it was a chapel congregation in Pernås. In 1914 Liljendal was finally detached from Pernå as an independent municipality. At the beginning of 2010 Liljendal was incorporated into the city of Loviisa together with Pernå and Ruotsinpyhtää .

Liljendal Church is in the village of Sävträsk. It was built in 1886 according to plans by Theodor Decker .
