The Swedish name Strömfors has a different origin and goes back to a rapids where an ironworks had existed since 1698 . At the beginning of 2010 Ruotsinpyhtää was incorporated into the city of Loviisa together with Pernå and Liljendal .

Ruotsinpyhtää Church stands in Ruukki Village and was completed in 1771. The unusual octagonal wooden structure represents the neo -Gothic style . Numerous historic industrial buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries can be found on the site of the Strömfors ironworks. The ironworks was in operation until the 1950s; today it is a museum.
