Life
As the daughter of the concert singer Lilli Claus-Neuroth, she came into contact with music at an early age and received musical training (singing, piano playing, dance school) in her youth. At the age of 16 she was admitted to the Vienna Music Academy .
She made her debut as “Papagena” in Mozart's Magic Flute at the Vienna State Opera . After engagements on several stages, u. a. Saarbrücken , she returned to the Vienna State Opera. There she heard the composer Nico Dostal , who was looking for a leading actress for his operetta Clivia . On December 23, 1933 it was premiered in the Berlin Theater on Nollendorfplatz with Lillie Claus in the leading role.
On November 30, 1934, she sang the soprano part in the world premiere of Alban Berg's “ Lulu ” suite in a concert by the Staatskapelle Berlin under the direction of Erich Kleiber . In the period that followed, Lillie Claus, who attracted attention through her lyrical coloratura soprano , increasingly concentrated on the operetta. Nico Dostal attributed several of his operettas to her voice.

- 1936 Princess Nefertiti
- 1937 extra sheets ("I gave my heart away")
- 1937 Monika ("Heimatlied")
- 1939 The Hungarian wedding ("Play me the song of luck and loyalty")
She recorded various songs on "gramophone" records. In 1942 she married Nico Dostal and surprisingly retired from the stage a year later. In 1943 their son Roman Dostal , conductor, was born. The family lived in Salzburg.
On Nico Dostal's 100th birthday in 1995, Lillie Claus, now 90, took part in the events in honor of Dostal.
