Lilly Hauff (born June 10, 1876 in Riga , † 1948 in Berlin ) was a German women's rights activist, professional trainer and headmistress.

Live and act

Lilly Hauff grew up in a merchant family in Riga, first attended school in Riga, completed her schooling in Berlin and Halle and then studied economics there and in Tübingen. From 1903 she worked as a trade teacher in Halle, later as a trade inspector in Berlin. After her doctorate in 1912 at the University of Tübingen, she became director of the schools in the Lette-Verein Berlin. She was subordinate to the chairwoman of the association Katharina von Haxthausen , administered the schools and buildings and organized the staff. She worked out curricula and gave the industrial, commercial and housekeeping training courses the defining structure. Together with Marie Kundt , she was involved in the conception of the training to become a chemical-biological assistant. Hauff published about the Lette-Verein in the daily press and about women's education in the specialist press. In her book The Lette Association in the German Women's Movement , she tried to embed the history of the association in the German women's movement, clearly showing its differences to the workers' movement on the one hand and the General German Women's Association on the other. She did not see men as the enemy of women, but industrialization and the legal system as the causes that had led to the tensions since the beginning of the 19th century. Although her work has been described as unscientific by contemporary reviewers, it is an important documentary source for the history of women's education. She was retired in 1933.

Lilly Hauff was a member of the DVP , in 1922 citizens' deputy for school issues in Schöneberg and a member of various specialist commissions on issues relating to vocational training.
