Lily Alice Lefevre

Lily Alice Lefevre (born April 5, 1853 in Kingston , Ontario , † October 17, 1938 in Vancouver ) was a Canadian poet.

Lefevre's literary work is closely linked to her hometown of Vancouver. As a teenager, she received a medal for the best poem about the city's carnival, which was also the subject of many of her other poems. On the occasion of Edward VII's coronation in 1902, she organized the Imperial Order of Daughters of the Empire . She was a co-founder of the Vancouver Art Gallery . In 1934 she donated a $ 5,000 scholarship and gold medal to the University of British Columbia in memory of her husband, JM Lefevre .

In 1895 her book The Lion's Gate appeared , which was published again in 1903 (with The Beaver And The Empress ) and in 1936 for the 50th anniversary of the founding of Vancouver. A Garden By The Sea was published in 1921. Her poem March on! Canada! was set to music by Harold Craxton .
