Limagrain SE (also: Groupe Limagrain ) is a French agricultural group with headquarters in Chappes (Puy-de-Dôme) . Limagrain specializes in crop and vegetable seeds as well as cereal products .

history

In 1942 the Coopérative de Production et Vente de Semences Sélectionnées du Massif Central was founded. In 1970 the name Limagrain was adopted and the first corn research station was established in Aubiat. In 1979 the first corn research station was added in the USA . In the same year the company Vilmorin was acquired, with which the vegetable seed production began. In 1986 the first biotechnology laboratory was founded in Clermont-Ferrand . In 1992 the Nickerson company was acquired. In 1999 Limagrain took over Jacquet and began producing baked goods . The companies Clause (France) and Harris-Morgan (USA) were also bought. That same year, Limagrain also founded Biogemma, a crop biotechnology company. In 2000, Limagrain founded AgReliant, a corn and soybean company in North America, in cooperation with KWS . Further acquisitions in recent years have been Advanta Europe (2005), Mikado Seed Growers (2006, Japan), Milcamps Food (2008, Belgium), Dahlco Seeds (2009, USA), Clovis Matton (2009, Belgium) and Créperie Lebreton (2009 , France). In 2010 Limagrain expanded into the United States and Argentina. The headquarters of the German Limagrain branch is located in Edemissen .

Business figures

In 2009/10 Limagrain achieved sales of EUR 1.349 billion. Of this, 64% was in Europe, 20% in America, 8% in Africa and the Middle East and 8% in Asia and Oceania. To seed 79% of revenues were (39% to crops, 40% on vegetables); Grain products made up 21%. The profit was 69 million euros. The number of employees in the same year was just under 6,700.

Vilmorin is the fourth largest producer of seeds and the second largest producer of vegetable seeds in the world as well as the largest producer of field crop seeds in Europe. Jacquet is the second largest baking company in France.
