Limerick City Gallery of Art

The Limerick City Gallery of Art ( Irish Gailearaí Ealaíon Chathair Luimní ) is an art museum in the city of Limerick in County Limerick in the province of Munster in the southwest of the Republic of Ireland .

The museum is housed in a neo-Romanesque building built in 1906 as the Carnegie Library and Museum and funded by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie . The Limerick City Gallery of Art was founded in 1936 and has taken over the Carnegie building. It was extended by a newly built exhibition hall. The permanent exhibition includes Irish art from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.

Special exhibitions

From January to April 2014, the Limerick Museum exhibited the Haselbeck Collection , a series of pictures and photographic works by Franz S. Haselbeck from the early 1900s. The exhibition was visited by the President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins in February.

The building is owned by Limerick City Council and entry is free.
